Ce dimanche 17 Mai, nous avons eu le plaisir de recevoir les Anglais de l’AFC VALOUR.
Suite à un contact pris il y a plusieurs mois déjà, nous avions décidé d’un match amical à l’occasion de leur tournée dans le Nord-pas-de-Calais. C’est donc une affiche de prestige qui attendait le Spartak dans ce match international.

Après le match contre les salariés et parents du CMP de Croix, ce second match amical en 11 vs 11 montre que le Spartak est désormais connu en dehors des frontières. Quelques supporters mais aussi plusieurs curieux ont également pu suivre le match du bord du terrain : un spectacle populaire et gratuit.

Premiers arrivés au stade, les Anglais garent leur bus rue des peupliers et débarquent sur le Mont de terre. Pour ce match, ce ne sont pas 14 ou 15 joueurs qui ont fait le déplacement mais près de 30 joueurs de l’AFC VALOUR. Pas intimidé pour autant, le Spartak sort sa traditionnelle play-list d’avant match et sa toute nouvelle bâche noire. Après quelques échauffements, tout le monde prend place sur la photo d’avant match pour immortaliser cette rencontre. Le match commence, pour trois mi-temps de trente minutes.

Dès le début du match, le Spartak se montre ambitieux mais se fait vite contrer. Les Anglais ne se font pas prier et crucifient rapidement les Spartakistes en inscrivant deux buts rapides. 2-0 On ressent vite le manque d’automatismes sur grand terrain mais l’envie est là et le Spartak défend chèrement sa peau.

Dès l’entame de la deuxième période, le Spartak est cueilli à froid par une jolie tête en pleine lucarne. L’histoire ne retiendra pas qu’il s’agit d’un CSC, mais plutôt la pureté du geste qui laisse le gardien totalement de marbre 3-0. Plutôt que de s’effondrer, le Spartak reprend sa marche en avant et le danger se fait de plus en plus pressant sur le but Anglais. Les attaquants Spartakistes butent tour à tour sur la défense, et le gardien avant que le poteau empêche à son tour le ballon de rentrer. A force de persuasion, le Spartak trouve la faille. Mohammed décale idéalement Clément qui conclu du plat du pied – efficacité. 3-1 La fin de la deuxième période est totalement à l’avantage du Spartak qui se rue tellement à l’attaque que la défense se retrouve livré à elle même. Sur un dégagement raté, les Anglais récupèrent le cuir et vont lober le gardien en deux touches de balles. C’est cruel, mais le second tiers-temps se termine sur le score de 4-1.

Après une heure de jeu sous le soleil, les courses sont moins rapides mais le match reste disputé. Les deux gardiens doivent s’employer pour ne pas encaisser de buts supplémentaires. Pourtant, a 15 minutes du terme, le gardien anglais ne peut strictement rien faire sur la volée de Khalid qui termine sa course en pleine lucarne. 4-2 « He’s a very good player and this is a fantastic goal » nous diront-ils quelques heures plus tard, accoudés au bar. Nous avons su rester ferme, « Aucun joueur ne sera vendu cet été ». Toujours est il que le match arrive à son terme, et que l’AFC Valour marque encore, sur un autodribble de notre Djoub national. 5-2

L’AFC VALOUR sort victorieux d’un match engagé mais très fair-play. Nous recevons chaleureusement le maillot de l’AFC VALOUR qui trônera désormais à côté du maillot de l’AS Gernelle.

Last but not least…

Alors que nous pensions le match terminé, les visiteurs nous invitent pour une dernière mi-temps, à célébrer au bar. Plus d’une vingtaine de joueurs anglais sont présents pour finir la soirée en beauté. Au delà du match, nous rencontrons des personnes sympathiques et intéressantes avec qui nous avons pu avoir de nombreux échanges et débats sur le sport et la société.  Nous ne pourrons nous étendre plus longuement sur le contenu de la fin de soirée, les quelques photos volées par des paparazzis seront assez suggestives et chacun se fera son idée. On a fait honneur au maillot, maintenant il ne reste qu’une seule chose à faire, louer un bus et partir en Angleterre pour le match retour.

On Sunday, May 17th, we were pleased to welcome the English team of AFC Valour. We were approached several months ago and we decided to organise a friendly match, as our new English friends were on tour in the north of France. A prestigious show was awaiting the Spartakists for this international match.

After the game against the employees and families from “CMP de Croix”, this second 11 vs 11 friendly match shows that Spartak is now known internationally. Some supporters but also many curious spectators could also follow the match from the side of the field: this was a popular and free show, as usual.

The English team were the first to arrive at the stadium and parked their bus on the rue des peupliers before landing on the Mont de Terre. That day, not only 14 or 15 AFC Valour players but nearly 30 players made the trip. Spartak were not impressed and prepared their traditional pre-game playlist as well as their new black banner. After a few warm-ups, everyone posed for a photo to immortalise this meeting. The match started for three periods of thirty minutes.

At the beginning of the match, the Spartakists showed ambitious but were quickly counter-attacked. The English didn’t need to be asked twice and crucified the Spartakists, quickly scoring two goals. 2-0. One quickly felt the lack of cohesiveness on a large pitch, but Spartak were resolute and defended themselves vigorously.

From the start of the second period, Spartak were caught off guard by a pretty header shot into the top corner. History books will not mention the fact that it was an own goal, but rather the purity of gesture that left the keeper completely unmoved. 3-0. Instead of collapsing, Spartak continued to go ahead and the danger became more and more threatening near the English goal. The Spartak attackers stumbled on the English defenders and then the goalkeeper, before the post prevented the ball from entering the goal. As a result of perseverance, Spartak found the flaw. Mohammed (aka. ”Momo”) sent a perfect pass to Clément, who concluded with a side-footed finish. 3-1. The end of the second period was clearly in favour of Spartak, who attacked so massively that the defenders were left on their own devices. After a failed clearance, the English took the ball and quickly lobbed the keeper. That was cruel, but the second period ended this way. 4-1.

After an hour under the sun, the players were running less rapidly, although the match remained contested. Both goalkeepers had a lot of saves to make in order to defend their goals. Yet, 15 minutes before the end, the English goalkeeper couldn’t do anything on Khalid’s 25-metre volley, which ended into the top corner. 4-2 “He’s a very good player and this was a fantastic goal”, they told us a few hours later, leaning on the bar. We managed to stay firm: “No player will be sold this summer”. Finally, the game came to an end with a last goal for AFC Valour, after our beloved D’joub dribbled the ball around himself. 5-2

AFC VALOUR won a disputed but fair play match. Our adversaries warmly offered us the AFC VALOUR orange jersey, which will be kept beside the AS Gernelle jersey.

Last but not least…

While we thought the match was over, AFC Valour invited us for a fourth period, to be celebrated in a bar. More than twenty English players were present to finish the evening on a high note. Beyond the game, we met friendly and interesting people with whom we had many discussions and debates on sports and society. We will not consider in detail the contents of the late evening, as the few pictures stolen by paparazzi are suggestive enough and everyone will have their own ideas. We honoured our colours, and now there is only one thing to do: let’s rent a bus and make a trip to England for the second leg!
